Alice Mildred (Pietz) Bartel, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 2, 2022. She was born on November 22, 1934 in the Town of Union, the daughter of the late Arthur and Hilda (Bartel) Pietz.
She graduated from Little Wolf High School in 1952. Alice helped her dad farm and worked at the Hanson Glove Factory in Clintonville until she got married to Duane Bartel on August 18, 1956. They started their life on a farm in Scandinavia and shortly thereafter moved on their farm in Little Wolf where they lived until November of 2005. Duane and Alice continued farming until the fall of 2009 and lived in their new home in Ogdensburg.
Alice was a school bus driver for the Manawa School District for 17 years. She enjoyed picking the little ones up and bringing them home. She spoiled them with treats whenever the occasion rose. She worked at the Manawa Nursing Home for a few years and also for the Census Bureau.
She loved helping her husband on the farm. She always volunteered to bale hay because she always got such a dark tan. She loved gardening with her husband and taking care of their grandchildren.
Alice and Duane were blessed with five children, nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Leonard (Kim) Bartel, children: Callie, Hilda; Stan Bartel; Michael(Janna) Bartel, his children: Andrew, Adam and Tim; Janna’s children: Derrick, Kyle (Ashley) and Trevor; Leroy (Heidi) Bartel; children: Natasha, Tyler (Meredith); Cheryl (Tom) Ostrowski, children: Heather and Eric; great-grandchildren: Bryce, Bentlee, Brayden, Brynleigh, Margaery and Vincent. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was reunited with her husband Duane, her parents Arthur and Hilda Pietz, sisters Gertrude (Luvern) Wartner, Margaret Pietz, Lucille (Ordell) Drath, and brother Norman (Lucille) Pietz.
A Memorial Service for Alice will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 1:00pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa with Rev. Nathan Reichle officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Symco. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church on Thursday from noon until the time of the service.
