of Waupaca, age 86, passed away Monday February 20, 2006 at Crystal River Nursing & Rehab Center in Waupaca. He was born April 18, 1919 in Latvia son of the late Peter and Maria (Jakanis) Baltmanis. On May 28, 1944 he married Rita Kalnins in Latvia. He was a teacher in Latvia before entering the military service and served in the Latvian Legion. Arturs came to the United States in 1951 and settled in Milwaukee. He was employed at Allis Chalmers for 27 years. He received a high award as a supporting parent involved with the Latvian Boy Scouts. He served as a former treasurer of the Milwaukee Latvian Hunting and Fishing Club. He retired in 1978 and moved to the West Bloomfield area. He has lived with his son Jon in the Waupaca area since 2002. He was a former member of Trinity Ev. Latvian Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being outdoors. Survivors include his wife: Rita; two sons: Martin, Milwaukee; Jon (Olga), Waupaca; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister: Irma Kviluns, Latvia; other relatives and friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son: Peter; and a brother Leo. A memorial service for Arturs will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday March 18, 2006 at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Weyauwega with Rev. Lauma Zusevics officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from noon Saturday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
