Age 92, of Symco, died on Saturday, February 2, 2008. He was born on October 16, 1915, near Wild Rose, son of the late Gilbert & Janet (Lane) Stevenson. At age 14, the Stevenson family moved near Symco where Bernard worked on the family farm. On March 6, 1943, Bernard was united in marriage to Hazel Heiman. In 1966 because of poor health, he was forced to give up dairy farming. He then joined the Herb Krueger Insurance Agency and for the next 14 years as a district representative for Aid Associations For Lutherans in Appleton, where he achieved designation to the President's Club numerous times. Bernard was active in his church and community. His hobbies were gardening, flowers, sports, where he was an avid Packers and Brewers fan, also writing, traveling, photography, and playing sheepshead.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years Hazel; his children: Barb (Arden) Lightfuss, Manawa; Lowell (Alice) Stevenson, Sheboygan; Gordon (Mary) Stevenson, Plover; Carol (Mike) Holcombe, Florida; Lee (Jane) Stevenson, Appleton; grandchildren: Shaun and Eric Stevenson, Adam and Matthew Stevenson, Jeremy (Renee') Stevenson, Angie (Corey) Olson; a step-grandson: Richard Holcombe; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren; a sister Alice Smith and a sister-in-law Erma Stevenson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Orin and brother-in-law Everett Smith.
The Christian Funeral for Bernard will be on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Symco with Rev. Jeffrey Smiles officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Symco. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
