Gilbert L. Anderson

age 88, passed away January 9, 1008 at his home in Indio, CA. He was born November 2, 1919 in Ogema, Price County, Wisconsin son of the late Andrew and Mabel (Johnson) Anderson. Gilbert Graduated from Westboro High School in 1938. He graduated from Wisconsin State Teachers College in Superior with a B.S. Degree in 1951. He earned his M.A Degree at Colorado State College of Education in 1955. Gilbert's life was devoted to education. He was an instructor in elementary, secondary and also at the university level. Gilbert was Superintendent of Schools, Antigo Unified School District, Antigo, WI for several years in the late 1960's He also served at the administrative level, serving various school districts in California and Wisconsin. He was a life member of the Wisconsin Education Association, serving as president in 1958, and the National Education Association. Gilbert was also civic minded. He was a member of the Indio, CA Kiwanis Club, the Antigo, WI Kiwanis Club and Antigo Chamber of Commerce. He was active in his church, serving on the church council and teaching Sunday school. On June 16, 1946 he married Erna Piotter at Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa. She preceded him in death. Gilbert is survived by his son: Jay G. Anderson, Indio, CA; a brother: Donald Anderson. DePere; two sisters: Bernice Kohlman, Wausau and Blanch Gregory, Chicago, IL other relatives and friends. Funeral service for Gilbert will be held 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church, Manawa with Rev. Blaine Niskanen officiating. Burial will be in the Little Wolf Cemetery, Manawa. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday from noon until the time of the service.
