Gilbert W. Paap

January 28, 1919 — November 15, 2012

God blessed Gilbert Paap with a life span of 93 years, nine months and fifteen days. Then, quickly and peacefully, angels escorted his ransomed soul from his earthly home at 601 Ann Street in Weyauwega, to his heavenly home, where he has now begun new life in glory everlasting. Born January 28, 1919 to Martin and Anna (Tank) Paap, he lived most of his life on the Paap family farm in Royalton Township. He attended White Lake and St. Peter Lutheran Schools. He was confirmed in 1933 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. He graduated from Weyauwega High School in 1937. In 1944, he married Edith Klein. God blessed them with two daughters, Carol (Daniel) Koelpin, Waukesha, and Kathleen (Michael) George, Brookfield. After the Lord called Edith home in 1964, Gilbert decided to give up dairy farming. For a time he drove truck, until he began working for Weyauwega Union Co-op. He delivered fuel and installed gas furnaces and appliances until his retirement in 1984. He then worked at Lakeview Manor in activities and security for 14 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for 22 years. In 1974, Gilbert married Marietta Paap of Manitowoc. The couple enjoyed gardening, bike riding, and country walks. Gilbert was gifted in woodworking, remodeling, and designing welded metallic art creations. He enjoyed his six grandchildren: Dawn (Joel) Schulz, Mississauga, Ontario; Nathan Koelpin, Waukesha; Jessica (Marcus) Spiegelberg, Doral Florida, Joseph (Jennifer) Koelpin, Pinehurst Texas, Alisa (Brad) Aleckson, Whitewater, and Kristin (Michael Kampman), North Fond Du Lac. Over the past twelve years, Gilbert's heart rejoiced in the blessing of 21 great-grand children, Jesus' little lambs. A life-long member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Gilbert served as a Deacon, Head Usher, and a member of the Board of Education. Gilbert was a diligent student of the Bible and its teachings. God's Word was in his hands and in his heart until the very day He was able to see Christ face-to-face. Gilbert is survived by his wife Marietta, his children and grandchildren, a sister Arleen (Leroy) Grancorbitz, Oshkosh, a brother-in-law Ron (Joyce) Meyer in Troy MI, and several nieces and nephews. The Christian funeral service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Monday November 19 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation is at the church, from 9 to time of service. Burial will be at Concordia Cemetery, West Bloomfield. Memorials have been established for WELS World Missions, and St. Peter Building on the Rock.
