Gloria Solberg

Age 76, was called home to the loving arms of the Lord on February 2, 2009. Cherished wife of Gerald. Beloved mother of William, Kathryn (Daniel) Czaplewski, Janet and Marilyn. Loving Grandma of Mickey (Sarah), William (Catrina), and Randy (Soon Yi Lee), Matthew and Emily, dearest Great-Grandma of Isabelle. Dear sister-in-law of Donald (the late Josephine), Elizabeth (the late Richard) Kilishek, Margaret Bigford, Daniel (Ada Shilts), Richard (Marge), Ronald (the late Connie), John, Raymond (Marlene), Carol Ann (Robert) Romportl, Vincent (Sandy Shirley), Robert (Julie Stickney), and Debbie Solberg. Preceded in death by dear infant son Joseph, brother Roy Felski and sister Beverly Kubiaczyk. Gloria was born on June 3, 1932 in West Allis, WI to Harry and Gertrude Felski. A 1950 Nathan Hale H.S. grad, Gloria earned a nursing degree at MATC, becoming a trained practical nurse. Her high regard for motherhood and her nursing skills helped her to care for children at St. Joseph's Orphanage and for expectant mothers in the practice of Dr. David Werner. Gloria married the love of her life, Gerald Solberg of Kaukauna, on Sept. 4, 1954, with her cousin, Rev. Harry Felski S.V.D., presiding. They raised a family of four children, and became founding members of West Allis Special Olympics in 1969, being active and devoted volunteers with the group until moving to Weyauwega in 1994. A woman of faith with a loving and unselfish heart, and an indomitable spirit, Gloria was loved and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. She had a smile and a word of wit or wisdom for everyone, despite her own suffering and challenges. Special thanks to the staff of Weyauwega Health Care Center who cared for Gloria for ten years, and especially to the Appleton Medical ICU, 4 North, and Pastoral staff for their compassionate care during her final illness. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 105 N. Lincoln St., Weyauwega, on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation in the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
