Irene L. Resop

On an unusually warm and rainy October day (10/10/18), Irene Louise Resop (age 98) took her last breath, smiled, and entered her new life with God. She is walking again hand and hand with her lifelong love and spouse of 60 years, Robert (Bob) Resop, who has waited for her since 2008. Despite the sunshine and a rainbow that peaked out of the clouds shortly after her death, Irene will be dearly missed by her three children: Louise Andrezejczak from Appleton, WI; John (Judy) Resop from Fond du Lac, WI; and Janet (Bob) Reilly of Ogdensburg, WI.

Above all, Irene valued God and the Catholic faith, and lead her life selflessly offering everything for her family and others. Irene especially loved children and modelled an excellent work ethic. She encouraged education and was so very proud of her eight grandchildren, each of whom earned graduate or doctoral degrees. Irene is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, 3 nieces, a sister-in-law, and many family friends.

Born June 26, 1920 in Princeton, WI, Irene was preceded in death by her parents (Anne and Walter Jackowski), a brother (Bob Jackowski), sister (Susan Jackowski), and a sister who died as a toddler (Lucy Jackowski). Irene enjoyed her flower garden, reading, decorating, sewing, long walks with Bob and staying busy. Irene will be remembered for the handmade cards with a single $1 bill which she sent to her grandchildren on every holiday, signed “We love you” and her voicemails which she always ended by saying “love, mom”. Working in healthcare herself before she was married, Irene (and her family) appreciated the individualized and genuine care received during her final years from Dr. Steven Goedderz, and the nurses and assistants at Living Oaks in Iola and the Manawa Community Living Center.

Visitation for Irene will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manawa, WI, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM. Fr. Xavier Santiago will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Berlin, WI. A celebratory meal will follow the burial in Berlin. In alignment with Irene’s values, and in lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church - Children’s Religious Education in Manawa, WI.
