It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and true friend, Joseph Allan Peskie. We said goodbye at ThedaCare Hospital Appleton after he suffered from a heart attack that he was not able to recover from. He left us peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2024, surrounded by family and has now taken his place in heaven. He was born on July 8, 1952, in Waupaca to Gerald Joseph Peskie and Mary Elizabeth (Haen) Peskie. On December 28, 2002, he married Janice Schroeder (Hahn-Peskie) the love of his life, and together they celebrated 21 years of marriage.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, travel, playing senior softball while wintering in central Florida, dancing, playing with grandchildren, and creating a relaxing country home in the Town of Lind. Joe attended Waupaca High School and graduated in 1970. He then served his country 1971-1973 in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, with an honorable discharge. After returning he attended Fox Valley Technical college to study auto bodywork. The majority of his work career was at Gusmer Enterprises Waupaca as warehouse supervisor and retired after 40+ years in 2016. He was an active member of the American Legion Fremont.
Joe had that "Wisconsin charm" and was able to start up a chat with anyone and was always quick with a funny comeback or comment. He loved stopping by family or friends just to catch up and to say hello. He was a volunteer for St. John's Community Food Pantry, Salvation Army, St. John's Episcopal Church New London where he was a member, and recently the Weyauwega-Fremont Youth Baseball and Softball.
He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Jan; his children: Matthew Peskie (Jasara Evangelist Peskie) and Eric Peskie (Kaitlyn Nigbor Peskie); bonus children: Weston Schroeder (Nikki Schroeder), Heather Schroeder (Cournoyer), and Jenna Schroeder (Koneman); 15 grandchildren; nieces and nephews; brothers: Jerry Peskie (Lola), Pat Peskie, John Peskie (Lei); sisters: Susan Groshek (Norm) and Lisa Engle (Wayne).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gib and Mary, and one brother William.
Joe always lived life to its fullest; was playful and easy-going, and had a kind heart, yet spoke his mind. He wanted to go where it was warm for the winter and his time at Lake Region Village, Haines City, FL for the past 7 years was a dream come true. There he played in several senior leagues and horseshoes and continued to make more friends. Now he is playing on the heavenly baseball team. Play ball Joe!
To honor and celebrate Joe's life, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 12:00pm at the Dahlke Life Celebration Center in Weyauwega (101 E. Main St.) with Rev. Portia Corbin officitating. A gathering of family and friends will be held prior to the service from 9:30am - 11:45am at the Celebration Center. Full military rites will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the 'WF Youth Baseball and Softball' are appreciated. Memorial donations should be mailed to WF Youth Baseball and Softball, PO Box 152, Weyauwega, WI 54983. Write "Joe Peskie" on the memo line.
