Age 66, of Weyauwega passed away at his home Tuesday June 30, 2009. John was born July 17, 1942 in New London, son of the late Irvin and Esther (Pagel) Zempel. He graduated from Weyauwega-Fremont High School with the class of 1961. He was employed at Struck Lumber Co. later known as Ort Lumber as a heavy duty operator until retiring in 2003. John entered the U.S. Army in April of 1967 serving until April of 1969 during the Viet Nam Conflict. On November 1, 1971 he married Jeannie Morgan in Shelby, N.C., they've lived in Weyauwega since their marriage. John was an avid outdoors man enjoying hunting, fishing, bow hunting, duck hunting with his Chesapeake Bay retriever, Indy. He also enjoyed downhill skiing and his flower garden. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Weyauwega and a charter member of VFW Post 10407 of Weyauwega. He is survived by his wife: Jeannie; and a daughter Melanie both of Weyauwega. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service for John will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday July 3, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Weyauwega with Rev. Joe Ripley officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Weyauwega. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
