John Antone Sopa, 68, of Waupaca, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Bethany Home. He was born on September 14, 1956 in Iola to Severine "Bud" and Edwina (Mrochinski) Sopa. John married Brenda Hartsworm on September 3, 1983 in Waupaca.
John graduated from Waupaca High School in 1974. He worked for Pepsi, Gusmer Enterprises, and retired from the Wisconsin Veterans Home where he worked in maintenance. He enjoyed deer hunting, golfing, and ice fishing. Another one of John's favorite pastimes was fishing on the Wolf River with buddies, where he caught his trophy walleye. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and giving rides on his tractor to his grandchildren. He was an avid Packer fan and enjoyed attending games at Lambeau Field with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughter, Amanda (Carl) Johnson; grandchildren: Adyn and Ayla Johnson, siblings: Edwin (Sally) Sopa, Marvin Sopa, Arelene (Patrick) Goggins, Audrey (Tom) Lubinski, Don Sopa, Miok Sopa; many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and one great great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Charlotte Smith; brothers: Mark Sopa and Michael Sopa.
A Memorial Service for John will be held at the Dahlke Life Celebration Center in Weyauwega on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 10:30am with Chaplain Ben Frei officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held following the service from 11:00am - 1:00pm at the Dahlke Life Celebration Center in Weyauwega. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of John A. Sopa.
The family would like to thank Dr. Chen, Dr. Bahtia, Dr. Baskaya, and many other physicians and nurses that took great care of John. Thank you also to ThedaCare at Home, ThedaCare Hospice, and Bethany Home for taking care of John during the last few months of his life.
