June Pethke

June Irma Alice (Poppe) Pethke, age 90, of Manawa, went peacefully to her heavenly home on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Aster Assisted Living in Clintonville.

June was born in the town of Dupont to the late Herbert and Irma (Pribbernow) Poppe. She was baptized on February 19, 1933 in South Dupont, confirmed on June 9, 1946 at Grace Lutheran Church in Bear Creek and graduated from Bear Creek High School. June was a nanny for 3 years for a couple who lived in Chicago. On July 7, 1956, she married Marvin M. Pethke. They farmed together in Bear Creek until moving to Manawa in 1983, where they became members of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Symco.

June enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and especially caring for her family. Marvin and June also did some traveling. She also enjoyed taking her granddaughters on special outings, such as going to see the Rockettes, overnight pool parties at a hotel, making Christmas cutout cookies, spending the weekends together during deer hunting and going to watch some of the granddaughters who played basketball.

June is survived by her husband of 66 years, Marvin; children: Jeffrey (Marcia) Pethke, Marcia (Al) Timmel, Brenda (Kevin) Tornow and Lydell (Sheryl) Pethke; grandchildren: Abby (Dan) Schulz, Stephanie Timmel (fiance'e Michael Hovel II), Rachael (Zach) Molner, Bridget (Ethan) Thiel, Amber (Quentin) Ellie, Cassidy Pethke, Kimberly (Michael) Saunders, Stephanie Burton (fiance'e Aaron Stasinski), Spenser Burton; great-grandchildren: Kyler Molner, Parker Schulz, Xander Thiel, Ridley Vacca, Zosia Stasinski; siblings: Alfred Poppe, Ardys (Darryl) Fietzer; sisters-in-law: Ardella Pethke and Elaine Pethke; she is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law: William and Anna Pethke; siblings: Ruben (Arwyn) Poppe, Sr., Ruth (Bill) Handrich, Arlene Poppe; in-laws: Sharon Poppe, Edwin (Lorina) Pethke, Erwin Pethke, William (Lucille) Pethke, Jr., Alvin (Alice) Pethke, Clarence (Edna) Riddle, Elmer (Ruby) Piotter, Arthur Pethke, Walter Pethke, Melvin (Rosetta) Pethke.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Aster Assisted Living, Moments Hospice and Pastor Smiles.

The funeral service for June will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Symco at 11:00 am with Rev. Jeffrey Smiles officiating. A visitation for June will be held on Saturday at the church from 9:00 am - 10:45 am prior to the service. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Town of Union.
