Leo Otto Ferg, 96, Manawa, was called to his heavenly home on Sunday morning August 9, 2015, surrounded by his family. Leo was born Oct 28, 1918, in the Township of St. Lawrence, Waupaca Co. He lived in Ogdensburg until 1927, when he moved with his parents to farm in the Township of Little Wolf, near Manawa. He was the son of the late Albert and Pauline (Steinbach) Ferg. Leo and his father farmed together until 1946. He experienced many changes in farming throughout the years. He plowed fields with horses and threshed oats with a threshing machine. Leo bought his own dairy farm in 1947 and lived there until his death. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed farming so much, that he was named Waupaca County Farmer of the Year in 1968. His passion for farming is carried on by his son Russ, as they farmed together many years. In his younger years, Leo was very athletic and participated in many sports including football, basketball, track and baseball. Throughout his life he enjoyed sports especially bowling, the Packers, and playing cards downtown. In later years he delivered Meals on Wheels. On May 31st, 1952 he married Dolores Eggebrecht at Imanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield. Leo is survived by his four children, Alice Menzel, Ron Ferg, Russ Ferg (fiancée Tammy Willams), & Kay Williamson. Seven grandchildren: Mike (Amy) Menzel, Shaina Ferg, Megan Menzel, Stacie Ferg, Ben Ferg, Alec Ferg and Marilee Williamson. One great grandson, Michal James Menzel and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores in 2008. Son-in-law, Jim Menzel in 2007. His four siblings and their spouses, Harry (Dorthy) Ferg, Eunice (Rhinard) Gruel, Wesley (Eunice) Ferg and Albert (Ruby) Ferg. The family wishes to thank Mary Kragh for the wonderful care she provided in his last year. Leo was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church most of his life. The funeral service for Leo will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 11:00a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa with Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating. Burial will be in Little Wolf Cemetery, Town of Little Wolf. A visitation will be held at the Cline- Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home (176 N. Bridge St.) in Manawa on Tuesday, August 11 from 4 to 7. On Wednesday, August 12 visitation will begin at 10:00 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, (750 Depot St., Manawa). In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Leo's name for St. Paul's Church. Dear Dad and Grandpa, you often mentioned how lots of people have helped you in your day. You were thankful for the people around you. We are thankful for the time we spent with you. We enjoyed the stories you told us while we took care of you the last 3 years. We were inspired by your patience, positive attitude, work ethic, persistence, athletic abilities, and sense of humor. We will miss you! You will forever be in our hearts and never be for gotten! We love you
