Lyle H. Spiegelberg

Lyle H. Spiegelberg of Ogdensburg, age 84, passed away Saturday May 12, 2007, at his home. He was born February 24, 1923, in Dale, WI son of the late Arnold and Laura (Beckman) Spiegelberg. Lyle was a member of the Manawa High School class of 1941. He moved to the Manawa area with his family as a child. Lyle became involved with the Schuelke Insurance Agency in the early 1950's. He later purchased the business opening his office in the Manawa Sales Building. He retired in 1998. On August 17, 1967, Lyle married Carol Woldt at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Appleton. He was an active member of the Manawa Lions Club for many years serving as secretary from 1958-1983. He was instrumental in promoting the Manawa Rodeo from the very beginning and became known as "Mr. Rodeo". He also ran the Little Britches Rodeo for many years and produced many Horse Shows at the Manawa Rodeo Grounds. Lyle was Treasurer of the Wisconsin Quarter Horse Assn. for 25 years and was inducted into the WQHA Hall of Fame in 2005. He was the phone contact for the CP telethon until 2006. He was a member, past president and board member of Waubeek Associated Club for Disabled Adults. He was a past chairman for the Waupaca County Easter Seals Society. Lyle also enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Survivors include his wife: Carol; his children: James Spiegelberg, Brooklyn, NY; Laura Spiegelberg, Milwaukee, WI; a brother: Vilas Spiegelberg, Manawa; a sister: Doris (Sam) Roth, Menasha, WI. He is further survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray, sister-in-law Elaine and brother-in-law James Woldt. The funeral service for Lyle will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday May 15, 2007, at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa, with Chaplin Jordon Kuczwara of Theda Care at Home officiating. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Monday May 14, 2007, and Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Assn. of Wisconsin or the Manawa Food Pantry. Lyle, You survived an accident at age 18 which made you a paraplegic and a bout with cancer in 1999, but you could not survive Alzheimer's. In spite of all this you had a full life and were a wonderful husband, father and friend. We will miss you always.
