Marion (Pat) Rose (Thompson) Young, age 92, of Manawa, WI, passed away April 12, 2025, in her home surrounded by loved ones. Marion was born on October 10, 1932, to Walter and Nellie Thompson in New London, WI. She was named after the wild roses that her mother saw growing outside the town of Marion, WI and grew up on the family farm with her 8 siblings from whom she acquired the nickname "Pat". Pat married Ray Allen Young on January 19, 1951, and began a life of an Air Force family; living around the United States and developing life-long friendships along the way. Her family landed in Green Bay, WI in 1968 and then moved back to her starting point in Manawa, WI in 1985 where she lived for the next 40 years.
During her journeys, Pat carried her love of the natural world and shared it by creating beautiful gardens wherever she lived. She shared her knowledge as a Girl Scout leader and as a grandmother making sure that her grandchildren knew the name of that flower or could recognize the song of that bird. She loved music and contributed her beautiful singing voice to multiple church choirs. She enjoyed the symphony and encouraged her loved ones to learn instruments and play music. Pat has always had a special dog by her side and for the last 9 years Red has been her constant companion. Whether it was baking cookies, pulling weeds, gathering and cracking nuts, or writing letters, she had to keep her hands busy. She was the family historian who remembered all of her relatives' birthdays and cared deeply for each of them in her own unique way. Pat shared her love by creating gifts using her talents in embroidering, knitting, quilting, carving, and making bouquets.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings: Mabel (Phil) Stedman, Myrtle (Tom) Ragland, Bill, John (Carol), and Walter Thompson; nephew: Neil Stedman; niece: Kathy Thompson; brother-in-law: William Farrell; sister-in-law: Joanne Thompson.
Pat is survived by her siblings: Alvin (Boots) Thompson, Joseph (Yvonne) Thompson, Rachel Farrell, sisters-in-law: Betty and Avonne Thompson, brother-in-law: David (Joyce) Young; daughters: Cynthia (Mark) Vanden Heuvel, Julie (Paul) Lannoye, S. Laurie Young (Jim Wendt); grandchildren: Becky (Tim) Hagan, Alena (Jeremy) Schuessler, Bobbi (Brian) Blank, Erin (Mark) LaPlante, Matt (Darci) Vanden Heuvel, Tom (Shawna) Lannoye, Nick (Amanda) Traeger; great-grandchildren: Henry, Derek, Peighton, Rylee, Emmersen, Easton, Eli, Hudson, Adelyn, Carson, Jaxson, Nolan, and Brycen; and beloved nieces and nephews.
