Mark R. Melton

Mark R. Melton, age 67, passed away suddenly at home on January 10, 2024. He was born May 29, 1956, in Yakima, WA, to the late Robert and Francis (Reba Humphreys) Melton Jr.

Mark graduated West Valley High class of 1975. He immediately joined the Navy serving onboard the USS Kitty Hawk, USS Constellation, and the Puget Sound as a Hull Technician. He was also stationed at Sand Point Naval Station, Seattle, WA. He was discharged from the Navy due to an injury and worked welding until his back could no longer support the work. He became a Service Officer for the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) in WA where he met his wife, Joyce. They married March 13, 2009. They moved to Nevada where Mark continued to work as a service officer until his retirement. In Nevada he also became involved with the American Legion and the Fleet Reserve Association. When Joyce retired, they moved to Wisconsin where he continued to be heavily involved in many veteran organizations: Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Am Vets, Polish Legion of American Veterans, and several other organizations. His belief was that veteran organizations need all the veteran support possible.

Mark is survived by his wife Joyce (Hermus), sister: Robin Barcus and niece Stephanie in WA; brothers-in- law and sisters-in-law whom he became close to: Jeffrey Hermus, Nancy (Jay) Sullivan, Steven (Donna Cole) Hermus, Alice (Jerry) Sell and Charles Hermus; also many friends and distant relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Robert Barcus.

A memorial service for Mark will be held at the Wisconsin Veterans Home chapel in King on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 1:00pm with a gathering of family and friends from 11:30-12:45pm at the chapel. Interment will be at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
