Age 86, Weyauwega, went to his Heavenly Home on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Weyauwega Health Care Center. He was born on January 20, 1924 in West Bloomfield, son of the late John and Leona (Kempf) Behm. On January 24, 1953 he was united in marriage to Joan Redmann at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Weyauwega. Melvin was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in West Bloomfield and also attended their elementary school. He graduated from Weyauwega High School with the class of 1943. Melvin farmed in West Bloomfield and began selling insurance with State Farm in 1948. While with State Farm, he was awarded the Lifetime President's Club and for numerous years he was a well known agent in Central Wisconsin. He retired from State Farm in 1994. Melvin loved sports. He was active in baseball, basketball, football and track. He played semi-pro baseball in Waupaca and also sponsored and coached women's softball in Berlin. He was also an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. While Melvin lived in Berlin, he was active in the Rotary Club and was the Berlin Police and Fire Commissioner. He was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Berlin. At present, he was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in West Bloomfield. He is survived by his wife Joan; children: Laurie (Joel) Glawe; Randy (Cheryl) Behm; Dan (Cheryl) Behm; son-in-law: Gary Boltz; grandchildren: Morgan and Colleen Boltz, Abby and Martha Glawe, Vicar David and Jonathan Behm, Rob and Matt Behm; great grand-daughter: Arianna Alexander; sister: Ruby Stillman; brother-in-law: Duwayne (Mary) Redmann; sister-in-law: Cardelle Redmann. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Nadine Boltz, brother V. Henry Behm, sister Viola Brooks, brothers-in-law Robert Stillman and Paul Redmann. The funeral service for Melvin will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in West Bloomfield (N6412 Highway 49) with Rev. Karl Wellnitz officiating. Burial will be in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in West Bloomfield. Friends may call at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Weyauwega on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
