Age 88, of Manawa, Wisconsin, passed away on July 31, 2008, at the Manawa Nursing Home after a brief illness. Mildred was born in Scandinavia, Wisconsin on July 18, 1920, daughter of the late Peter and Ida (Moe) Griena. She grew up and attended school in Scandinavia. After high school she worked for a short time as a maid in Chicago. She then attended the School of Cosmetology in Milwaukee, later working in Waupaca and Manawa. Mildred married Victor G. Thiel on October 10, 1942, at Scandinavia Lutheran Church. They lived, worked, and raised their family on a dairy farm in the Town of Little Wolf. She also worked for several years as a floral designer in Manawa. Mildred was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa where she was an active member for many years of the Ladies Aid and of a quilting group working for World Relief. She was also a member of the Spring Brook Advancement Club for over 45 years. Among her many hobbies were gardening, making floral arrangements, sewing, cooking, and crafts. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. Mildred is survived by her husband, Victor G. Thiel, of Manawa, Wisconsin; three children, Donald (Diane) Thiel of Neenah, Wisconsin, Jane (Randy) Lieble of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Jack Thiel of Monument, Colorado; five grandchildren, Dennis (Rhonda) Thiel of Cave Creek, Arizona, Dean (Toni) Thiel of Neenah, Wisconsin, Darren Thiel of Madison, Wisconsin, Sarajane Lieble of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Jason Lieble of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; five great-grandchildren and; by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Grace Anderson of Racine, Wisconsin and her brother, Sydney Griena of Scandanavia. The funeral service for Mildred will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday August 3, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa with Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating. Burial will be in the Little Wolf Cemetery, Manawa. Relatives and friends may call from 3:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m Saturday at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa, and at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Her gentle, kind spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Steven Goedderz and the entire staff at the Manawa Nursing Home.
