Age 76, died peacefully on Friday, September 17, 2010, at the Wisconsin Veterans' Home, King, WI. He was born July 15, 1934 in New York City, N.Y., son of Merl H. and Dorothy V.(Kneip) Dunbar. Robert had lived in Lakewood, Ohio; Caldwell, N.J.; Seattle, WA. and Antigo, WI. before moving to Weyauwega in 1976. He was a 1952 graduate of Antigo High School and graduated with the class of 1961 from Central State College in Stevens Point. Robert served in the US Air Force from 1952-1956, including 3 years in Germany. He was employed as a Park Ranger at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, AZ. and later as a Social Worker in Oconto County, WI. Robert was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Weyauwega, where he served for many years as usher, Eucharistic minister and lector. He was a life member of VFW Post #10407 and a member of American Legion Post #176, joining the American Legion in 1955. Robert was a past chaplain of both posts. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy (Dorine) Dunbar; two nieces, Christi (Mrs. Paul Lozancich) and Kimberly Ann Dunbar Bussard; a nephew, Scott (Lori) Dunbar and sister-in-law, Bev. Dunbar and other relatives. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and brothers; Luther & Abigail (Whitney)Dunbar; William & Charlotte (Zastrow) Kneip and William F. (Buz) Dunbar. The funeral will be at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Weyauwega on Wednesday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the church from 10:00a.m. until the time of service. Following the Mass of the Resurrection, military rites will be held at the church. Cremation and inurnment in Oakwood Cemetery will follow at a later date.
