Roena Halverson

Age 97, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2009 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. She was born on September 8, 1911 in Zittau, daughter of the late Paul and Melinda (Reinke) Drews. She was united in marriage to Irvin Pomrening on November 6, 1937 and Rex Halverson on June 8, 1995. Both her husbands preceded her in death. Irvin and Roena farmed in the Town of Matteson in the Clintonville area for many years. Roena taught Sunday School and Bible study, she worked at Pine Manor and Cloverleaf Lakes Restaurant. She was a volunteer at the Waupaca County Nutrition Site in Weyauwega and enjoyed playing dart ball. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, picking berries, reading and watching baseball, hockey and football games. She was a member of St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Weyauwega. She is survived by her children: Doris (Dave) Coburn, Ashland, VA; Phil (Phyllis), Wausau; Roger (Lucy), Weyauwega; Faye Green, Gainesville, VA; Verna (Norb) Dallman, Hortonville; Joann (Donald) Thulien, Madison; grandchildren: Jeff (Lori) Coburn, Sacramento, CA; Paul (Donna) Coburn, Ashland, VA; Julie (Greg) Mowris, Knoxville, TN; Todd (Dawn) Pomrening, Athens; Brian (Kay) Pomrening, Wausau; Glenn (Tara) Pomrening, Fremont; Doug (Jenni) Pomrening, Hortonville; Sheila Pomrening, New London; Lisa (Ray) Warran, Nokesville, VA; Debbie (Chris) Lowrance, Centreville, VA; Scott Green, Centreville, VA; Kim (Steve) Eilenberger, Dickenson, TX; Margene (Nick) Hermes, Dickenson, TX; Tiffany (Doug) Thulien-Brown, Fremont; Holly (Scott) Ringen, Madison; great-grandchildren: Lauren and Graham Coburn, Savanna and Keely Mowris, Gregory Fecteau, Chris and Zacary Pomrening, Ellie and Kendall Pomrening, Anna Pomrening, Brandon Lowrance, Devon and Dominic Hermes, Solomon, Alana and Isaac Ringen; a sister: Rosemary (Drews) Blank, Medford, OR; sisters-in-law: Gertie Drews, Rhinelander; Gladys Drews, Oregon, WI. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husbands Irvin Pomrening and Rex Halverson. The Christian Funeral for Roena will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Weyauwega with Rev. Dennis Lemke and Rev. Robbin Robbert officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery in New London. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
