Mark "Skip" William Thayer III, age 77, of Manawa, went to his heavenly home on April 16, 2025. He was born on April 5, 1948 in New London to the late Mark and Dorothy (O'Brien) Thayer. Mark married the love of his life, Carol (Noffke) Thayer on June 25, 2016 in New London at Victory Church.
Mark was given the nickname "Skip" by his grandmother who called him her "little skipper" when she saw him for the first time and it stuck with him his whole life. Skip graduated from New London High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968. He proudly served his country for two years as a heavy vehicle driver, received a National Defense Medal and was an expert with an M-16. Skip had several jobs through the years in construction and maintenance, but his most loved job was as a bartender - getting to know many people he served through the years at the Waterfront.
Skip had many hobbies, including fishing, hunting, trapping and making jigs. He was well-known in the New London area for all of them. Skip's favorite memories included the birth of his three wonderful children and becoming a step-father to three awesome girls.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Bridgitt (Jim) Dumpleton; sons, Mark IV (Dionne) and Jeremiah Thayer; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; step-daughters, Dawn (Brad) Krolow, Casey Guyette, Nicole Guyette; and also step-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Skip will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at the Dahlke Life Celebration Center in Manawa.
