Susan Irene (McCauley) Drozd, Indian name (Laughing woman), age 66, of Manawa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Appleton Medical Center after courageously fighting lung cancer. She was born on May 24, 1945, in Superior, daughter of the late James R. and Elizabeth I. (Durfee) McCauley. On September 19, 1987 she married John Adolph Drozd. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2006. Sue belonged to the Indian Tribe Fon du lac Band of Ojibwa. She worked at the Manawa Community Nursing Center until 2004. Sue enjoyed crocheting, caring for her grandkids, and traveling to Superior for her family reunions. She is survived by 5 children: Sandy (Lenny) Stanton, Judy (Tony) Mundy, Jon (Brenda) Kortesmaki, Cathy (Steve) Dain, Jim Kortesmaki and his fiancé Anycia; 3 step-children: Karen (Rick) Bartelt, Pattie Taylor, James (Angel) Drozd; a brother: Edward (Mary) McCauley; 2 sisters: Georgia (Ted) Siskie, Mary Duddleston and special friend Charlie; special friend Dawn Soliva; 24 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, also 1 great-grandchild on the way. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother James Durfee, sister Elizabeth Webster, a granddaughter Elizabeth Irene Stanton and her former husband John M. Kortesmaki. A memorial service for Sue will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa with her grandson Anthony James Mundy officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Symco in the spring. Friends may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
