age 85, of Weyauwega, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Syd was born February 26, 1925, in the Township of Green Valley, Marathon County, son of the late Alvin and Elizabeth (Peterson) Faulks. On April 29, 1950, he married Ardys Reinert at Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield, WI. Syd co-founded Faulks Bros. Construction, Inc. in 1946 with his brother Oliver. He was the first President and Charter Member of the Associated Builders & Contractors of Wisconsin and a Former President of the Wisconsin Ready-Mixed Concrete Association. Syd served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a charter and lifetime Member of the Weyauwega VFW Post 10407 and Arndt-Bruley American Legion Post 176 of Weyauwega. He also served on the Weyauwega-Fremont School Board for twelve years; CESA Board; and the Weyauwega-Fremont Lions for over fifty years. Syd lived his life strong in faith. He served as a past president of St. Peter's Lutheran congregation in Weyauwega, and with his wife Ardys, helped found the RCB Chapel in Indio, California that now serves over 350 members and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. He enjoyed several coffee clubs including the local "shake of the day" club in Weyauwega. With his characteristic "can do" attitude, Syd imagined and pursued several ideas, identifying challenges and creating new opportunities. Optimism was Syd's lifelong friend. He built a strong legacy as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, always doing things for others and striving to make a difference in their lives. Strongly devoted to his wife, he cherished all of life's moments, whether traveling with Ardys in their motor home or around the world. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ardys; four children: Randy (Susie) Faulks, Weyauwega, Bob (Christine) Faulks, Waupaca, Mike (Sue) Faulks, Neenah, and Lisa Tolfa, Menominee Falls; six grandchildren: Jonathan Faulks, Weyauwega, Joseph Faulks, Fremont, Julia Faulks, U.S. Air Force, Tyler Faulks, Neenah, Cassie Faulks, Oshkosh, and Laura Tolfa, Menominee Falls; a sister-in-law, Gladys Faulks, Weyauwega; and step-sisters in law Donna Faulks and Alice Stolzman. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Lewellyn Faulks, Oliver Faulks and 12 step-brothers and step-sisters. The Christian Funeral for Syd will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca with Rev. Dr. Charles Tews officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Weyauwega. Friends may call at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Weyauwega on Monday, January 10, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the very special and caring medical personnel that were there for Syd, and especially to Dr. Timothy Goggins and ThedaCare At Home. We will never forget your kindness. Syd's family pledges to remain true to his lifetime philosophy of "Always leaving the woodpile higher than you found it."
