Verlyn “Moose” C. Strebe, age 81, of Manawa, went to his heavenly home on Monday, May 27, 2019 at the Manawa Community Nursing Center. He was born on July 6, 1937 in the Town of Weyauwega, son of the late Clarence and Elsie (Oppor) Strebe. On May 22, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Arndt at St. Paul Lutheran Church in the Town of DuPont. She preceded him in death on September 1, 2011. Moose was a truck driver for many years with Niemuth Livestock, Faulks Bros., and then Murphy Concrete. Moose enjoyed playing cards, watching the Brewers, car racing, and the Packers. He enjoyed being in the stands for the famous “Ice Bowl”. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa.
He is survived by his siblings: Arleigh (Janet), New London; Walter (Elizabeth), Manawa; Gary (Nancy), Appleton; Norma (Dennis) Zahn, Clintonville; and Jean Smith New London. Moose is also survived by a special friend Annabelle Hauser; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law: Loretta (Don) Budsberg; brother-in-law: John Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law Bennie (Gertrude) Arndt; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Eldore (Diane) Arndt.
A memorial service for Moose will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa with Rev. Tedd Lees officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
A special “thank you” to the staff at the Manawa Community Nursing Center and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care of Moose.
